Bridal Alterations Stouffville

Wedding Dress Alterations

At Tanis Emmett Wedding Style, we create an unforgettable bridal alterations experience for our brides. Your one-on-one bridal alteration service begins with a personal assessment at our Stouffville studio, and ends with the perfect fit on your big day!

We strive to make all our consultations and appointments a stress-free and enjoyable experience! When you book your bridal alterations appointment with us, we don’t just pin your wedding dress – we’ll work with you to ensure the fit and style of your garment are customized to you! We’re happy to explain our process, show you multiple bustle options and help you choose or customize accessories to complete your bridal look!

Our Alterations Process

First Fitting

On your first fitting, we will pin your dress to assess what needs to be altered. You will need to bring the undergarments and shoes you plan to wear on your special day. If you require cups, we offer cups that can be sewn into your dress in place of a bra, for an extra fee. As far as our payment schedule works, we require a 50% non-refundable deposit at this time and the final balance will be settled at your second fitting. Depending on your dress style, at your first fitting, we can discuss if you would like to move forward with a hoop rental. Hoop rentals require a $65 refundable deposit upon return of the hoop.

Second Fitting

On your second fitting, we recommend bringing someone who can help you get ready on your special day. It’s important to bring someone who our team can train to care for your dress at your wedding. We will teach this person how to bustle the dress, lace-up the corset (if applicable) and also reveal some helpful tips to solve possible dress emergencies. At this fitting, the tailor will book your final visit to pick up your perfectly fit dress!

Third Fitting

Your third fitting is offered to ensure there are no additional tweaks or changes needed for your gown.

Pick up & Try on

On your final visit, you will pick up your altered and steam-cleaned dress and any additional pieces you may have ordered.

*For our destination wedding brides, or brides who may be travelling for the big day, we will show you how to package your gown for travel to ensure a wrinkle-free garment.

Frequently Asked Questions

We offer consultations to assess your garment and provide you an estimate. At this 30-minute appointment, you are able to chat with our team to explore all the fit options for your special day and understand how much to budget for your bridal alterations. A $80 (+tax) non-refundable consultation fee applies.

If you’re happy with our service and your estimate, we will then book you in for your first fitting with our team!

Typically we tell our Brides to budget $800-$1,200 for standard bridal alterations. With that said it can be less or more depending on the work being done. We do recommend booking in for a consultation. Our consultations are a $80 (+tax) non-refundable fee and will help you with your budgeting.

As our pricing is based on the work being done the consultation will give you and our team a better idea of the work involved.

It is very rare that your wedding gown will not have alterations needed. When you order your gown from the designers, they typically base the sizing off of 3 measurements. Your bust, waist and hips. As we are not all the exact 3 measurements in each size, we likely will require the alterations. Depending on what shoes you are wearing the hem is likely one of the main jobs as each heel high is different.
We alter a variety of ethnic gowns here at our studio! We are experts in the various finishings and details.
If you have purchased a gown with a stunning lace trim at the bottom, do not be alarmed. The trim will all be lifted off and re-applied after your dress has been hemmed. In some cases there is not a place to lift the lace off, that’s ok! We can still cut and raise the trim making your gown look untouched!
Bustles are put in your gown by the tailor after you have received your dress from the bridal shop. A bustle is used to pick up your train after the ceremony to keep your hands free and so that your gown is not stepped on. They can be easily unclipped when you want your train out for those unique pictures! There are many ways to bustle your gown making it fun, trendy and versatile for your day!
